INSTRUCTIONS FOR GETTING THE URL OF A PICTURE
USING A MACINTOSH

In Internet Explorer, click on the image and select
"Open Image in New Window"
 This will happen at once and the URL of the photo will be displayed in the address bar on the browser window right above the image.
Copy (Apple key plus C) and paste (Apple key plus V) into the space for the Image URL on your message.

If you have Safari, open a new window, drag the image you want onto the new window. It will appear in the window and display the image URL in the address bar. Copy and paste as above.

If you have an older operating system or a really ancient Web browser try this:
Go to "Edit" and then "View Source".
 You will see the HTML code for the page. Go to the Edit menu again and select "Find". Type the word "src" into the dialog box that will appear for the search. "src" will then be highlighted in the source code.
Scroll down the source code till you see the highlight. You may have to scroll sideways. Hint: it comes shortly after some text that is displayed in red in the code. Select everything that comes after the equal sign, up to the end quotation. It will look like this:

src=http://www.thedollpage.com/photopost/data/500/90comparison008-med.jpg?6697

The word "src" (source) is an HTML code that tells the browser where to find an image and to insert it. Don't copy that, or the equal sign. If you look at the code following the equal sign, you will see it starts with "http://" just like a Web address. That is exactly what it is. Then comes the doll page address, then photopost, then some other stuff, then there is the name of your photo (in this case it is "comparison008" the name I gave the file when I uploaded it. Your picture will have whatever name you gave it there instead. Then comes its size, in this case "med" then " jpg" (image format --this picture--and most all web pictures--happen to be a j-peg, a type of internet image) and a question mark and some numbers. All of this stuff means something to your computer, if not to you, so copy it all. Note that after all this comes some quotation marks and other stuff. Don't copy the quotation marks or anything after that, or your picture won't open in your message. Highlight and copy the code as above (apple plus C) and close the windows.
(If you have a really old Mac, you need to save the RAM).
Now you are ready to paste in the appropriate place in your message.

IMPORTANT REMINDER: You know you hate to get those red X's instead of
a picture -- so do other people. Before you post a message TEST it to be
sure the image opens by using the PREVIEW option.

Many Thanks to Lauri G. for providing these instructions!
